A €6.7m EU-backed initiative to combat the effects of pollution on bathing waters in Wales and Ireland has been announced by Finance Secretary Mark Drakeford and the Irish Government’s Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Paschal Donohoe, T.D [10.03.17]

More than €7m of EU funds will be invested in science and technology projects to help protect and develop the marine life and the fisheries industry in Wales and Ireland.

More than €1m of EU funds will be invested in a new project to support the growth of the shellfish industry in Wales and Ireland.

FOUR world-class institutions from Wales and Ireland established an exciting alliance to lead the way in developing cutting-edge healthcare.

One of the success stories of the co-operation between Ireland and Wales during 2007-2013, was Hydro BPT.

A novel project which called upon local volunteers in Ireland and Wales to collect data in a bid to protect threatened wildlife and habitats has provided vital insights to enhance biodiversity in the region.
 

Wales’ First Minister, Carwyn Jones, has committed to strengthening the cross-border relationship with Ireland in a White Paper setting out the Welsh Government’s plan for the UK’s exit from the European Union.

The Ireland Wales Programme Steering Committee (PSC) will meet to review and discuss activity to date and to consider requests for funding.  The PSC  meet periodically during the programme period to assess progress and to consider requests for funding.

More than €4m of EU funds will help to safeguard heritage and coastal tourism sites in Wales and Ireland from the risks of climate change.

The funding will also provide a stimulus for marine-based economic growth in the two countries.

The ACT project (Advanced Communication Technologies) assisted small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) across West Wales and South East Ireland to understand social media and take advantage of opportunities it offers for online business growth.
